When I was 11 years old, my mother gave me a book, titled "Histoire mondiale de l'astronautique" -History of rocketry and space travel-, by Wernher Von Braun. I was hooked from the very first page. That book became my favorite, along with 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. This is where I first encountered the Sputnik, the Explorer 1, the Mariner 2, the Vostock, and last, but not least, Laika, a hero I worshipped just as I did Captain Nemo. Needless to say, I had a dog named Laika and dreamed of becoming Captain Nemo - or an Astronaut-, when I grew up.
This timeline is part of a series related to Astronomy and Cosmology. I'm a passionate enthusiast of both, as both fuel my imagination to no end, like no other subject I know - well, except for Music, but that's another matter.
If you, like myself, are a fan of all things space (time) related, galaxies, neutrons stars, WMAP, black holes, black matter, dark energy, string theory, branes, etc., I would love to hear from you. To comment, report errors, or to suggest corrections, additions, etc. please e-mail me and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
